Becky Black (she/her)

“I am certain of nothing but of the holiness of the Heart's affections and the truth of Imagination.” - John Keats -

I am grateful to live on the lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən people, today known as the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations.

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that incorporates the creative process and art making to support health and wellbeing. Through art making and dialogue we connect with our inner wisdom to strengthen our capacity to understand and resolve personal challenges. The materials used in art therapy are different for each person, depending on your needs and interests. Even the most basic materials such as computer paper and wax crayons can be used in our online sessions.

I believe there is a creative centre within each of us, a wise teacher, that informs and guides our understanding of self, our relationships with others and with the natural world. My art therapy practice is guided by my trust in inner wisdom and faith in the art making process. I use an eclectic approach that is person-based and nervous system aware. I incorporate body-mind-spirit practices that invite exploration of your inner world.

I come to art therapy later in life by way of the practice of law, specializing in reconciliation work with Indigenous peoples. I am currently working towards a Master of Psychotherapy and Spirituality at St. Stephen’s College. I offer my services as a student art therapist with deep humility for culture, neurodiversity, and the different ways to practice being human.

I am currently working with adults and have experience leading art therapy groups.
